Fine Federal Inlaid Mahogany Small Sideboard, Attributed to Thomas Howard, Providence, Rhode Island, circa 1800, the rectangular top with line-inlaid edge above a pair of cupboard doors flanked by two line inlaid short drawers and a bottle drawer faced to simulate two small drawers, the shaped skirt centering an inlaid cross-vine reserve, on line-and bellflower-inlaid square tapering legs ending in crossbanded cuffs. Top reset and some repair to inlay and one leg. Height 39 ¾ inches (1.01 m.); width 45 ¼ inches (1.15 m.); depth 21 ¾ inches (55 cm.) A related sideboard also with a crossed -vine-inlaid skirt is in the collection of The Rhode Island Historical Society, Providence, Rhode Island, 1965, fig. 48. Another related sideboard attributed to Thomas Howard was sold at Sotheby's in sale 4692, September 1981, lot 424 and illustrated on the cover of the catalogue.
