Masterpiece Hepplewhite mahogany and satinwood inlaid serpentine
front sideboard, a masterpiece of the inlayer's art; the cupboard doors
inlaid with drapery and tassel motifs centered by inlaid urns; a drapery chain of tinted
inlaid bellflowers interlace with the drapery and tassel inlay of the center cupboard and
is repeated on the bowed center drawer; the drawer and cupboard doors are bordered by
green tinted crossbanding with fan inlaid quadrants in the corners; the tapered legs are
inlaid with tinted bellflowers and interlaced loops. The original label of
Mills and Deming is behind the right hand cupboard door. This sideboard was
made for Oliver Wolcott, signer of the Declaration of Independence and first Governor of
the State of Connecticut. New York, circa 1790-1795. 48 3/4" high, 74 1/4" wide, 32
1/4" deep |
