A very fine Hepplewhite mahogany serpentine front sideboard of
Southern origin; the inlay is highly individual; the vine inlay on the stiles resembles
that on Southern cellarettes and are capped by black and white daisy medallions; the
serpentine center apron is fronted by half and quarter satinwood fans, the legs are
tapered to a narrow point at the base, they are fronted by triangular blocked inlaid
panels with bellflower motifs; beautiful mellow brown patina, the secondary wood is
Southern yellow pine; an inscription on the back of one drawer reads "Repaired by C.
Hellman, Hampton, Va. Feb. 16, 1904." Virginia circa, 1780-1800. 37" high 5' 5 3/4" long, 27
