Very fine Hepplewhite mahogany "D" shaped
sideboard, having a serpentine center with one long drawer
with floral urn in satinwood panel flanked by two small drawers, recessed central cupboard
compartment flanked by convex turrets and bottle drawers which retain the original blown
glass decanters; the legs and stiles are fronted by satinwood panels with oval inlaid urns
flanking the drawers, top bordered by spiral inlay, original octagonal brasses, superb
mellow brown patina. The grace and delicacy achieved in a sideboard of this length shows
the hand of a master designer. It is perhaps the only sideboard known which retains its
original decanters. New York, circa 1790-1800.
