Very fine Hepplewhite mahogany "D" shaped
sideboard, bowed ends with serpentine center and conforming
recessed cupboard, delicate bellflower and loop inlaid legs; doors, drawers and stiles
with circular and oval crotch panels with black and white line inlaid borders; beautiful
mellow brown patina. Each door of the center compartment bears the label of William
Whitehead, No. 75 Pearl St., New York. Whitehead was at that address from 1794-1799.
A distinctive detail is the double teardrop inlay under each diamond escutcheon. This
feature plus closely related bellflower inlay can be seen in the great serpentine
sideboard in the Karolik Collection. New York, circa 1794-1799. 40" high, 40" long, 29 1/2"
