Exceptionally fine and rare Hepplewhite inlaid mahogany and
satinwood serpentine front sideboard, a true masterpiece of the
inlayer's art, the cupboard doors inlaid with drapery and swag motifs, centered by inlaid
urns; the bowed central drawer inlaid with a drapery chain of tinted inlaid
bellflowers, and the recessed cupboard doors inlaid with drapery and swag detail; the
drawers and cupboard doors are bordered by green tinted crossbanding with fan inlaid
quadrants in the corners; the tapered legs are inlaid with tinted bellflowers and
interlaced loops. Original label of Mills and Deming is behind the right hand cupboard
door; made by Mills and Deming, New York, circa 1790-1795, for Oliver Wolcott, signer of
the Declaration of Independence and first Governor of the State of Connecticut. 41 3/4" high, 74 3/4" long, 32
1/4" deep. |
